World Environment Day ('WED') is
celebrated every year on 5th June to raise global awareness of the need to take positive
environmental action. It is run by the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP). Each year, World Environment
Day is hosted in a different city with a different theme for one week that
kicks off on June 5. A World Environment Day theme is selected along with an
Environment Day slogan, which aims to emphasize the importance of protecting
our planet and promote an understanding that they each individually can play a
significant and effective role in tackling environmental issues.
The theme for this year’s world environment day is ‘‘THINK, EAT, SAVE’’. The extension to this is REDUCE YOUR FOOT PRINT. The theme mainly talks about Anti-food
waste and about the growing population of the world. We eat food and the left
overs we throw away. That thrown away food could feed a person or two. There is
another way to think through this, if we limit our consumption to our needs, it
saves money. Let’s think about our
future generation. Every grain that you throw away spills blood of a child.
Our school is
celebrating the day by cleaning the town in the afternoon.
